Cactus Mexican Cuisine has opened at 1409 Ferndale Ave, the space formerly occupied by The Meet Shop OC.
Cactus, or nopales, has been grown and eaten as a vegetable in Central Mexico since before the Spanish arrived; however, the sign on the restaurant features a cartoon cactus that's too adorable to eat. The restaurant's owner, who goes by Esthela, tells us the inspiration for the food comes from her mother. "I want the whole world to try my food that's 100% Mexican," she says.
Menu items listed on their Facebook page include pork ribs with nopales, enchiladas, tamales and chilaquiles, as well as various soups like menudo and pozole.
Cactus Mexican Cuisine is open every day from 8am-7pm. Cash only and BYOB.
