PetFest at Elmwoof

By Carolyn Paulk

The second-grade TAG students at Margaret B. Henderson Elementary School went on a mini field trip to the Elmwoof dog park site at Edgefield and Balboa, across the street from the school. When they returned to class they sat at a table and brainstormed and discussed ideas that they wanted to share about building Elmwoof, and they had some good ones! They even had one we had not thought of: an area designated for dog training. They wrote a letter to ENA with their suggestions and each student signed it. Henderson Elementary teacher and Elmwood neighbor, Elena Stephens, sent their letter to ENA. The letter (all 10 pages – they print BIG) is receiving smiles and delight – their enthusiasm is contagious!

Elmwood residents love their pets, and that’s an understatement! Elmwoof is beginning construction soon and the nice spring weather with daylight savings time brings people and pets outdoors more often. To celebrate our furry friends and promote responsible pet ownership, ENA is hosting PetFest at Elmwoof on Saturday, May 19, 2018 from 12-4pm. Some Henderson students will be helping at the event, which also features face painting, a Pet Parade at 2:00pm (featuring neighbor pets decorated in red, white and blue), snacks, beverages, and exhibits and informational materials from Dallas Animal Services, SPCA and Dallas Park & Recreation Department. If you would like to volunteer and participate in this fun event please contact Carolyn Paulk at Everyone is welcome, and bring your pets. On leashes, of course!
