Several neighbors recently got together and created a fun environment for the first-ever PetFest and future events in Elmwoof. Have you noticed the painted wooden boxes in Elmwoof Dog Park? They are placed in a diagonal line across the park and can be used for seating or tables while at the dog park. How about the red flowers in planter boxes outside of Grassroots Kitchen? Did you see anyone painting a red crosswalk across Balboa or Edgefield?
This effort is part of the Better Block, Elmwood Edition. Better Block Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that educates, equips, and empowers communities and their leaders to reshape and reactivate built environments to promote the growth of healthy and vibrant neighborhoods.
While not an official partnership between our two nonprofits, the goal of this project is to use tools and best practices from Better Block to spruce up our neighborhood with inexpensive items that are temporary yet open the possibilities to design the type of permanent improvements that neighbors want to see in the ‘hood, like benches, planter boxes, art, etc. You can volunteer to help make Elmwood a more attractive, walkable, friendly neighborhood by joining ENA.
